How To Make Candles

Posted by: admin   in candle making projects

It has been a while since the idea sparkled into my mind of creating my own candles and, as it is often the case, when we want to start something new, we delay in getting was is needed to start it going.

So my desire of creating candles did not transform itself into a “Let’s do it !” momentum until some months past or so. Better late than never, right ?

My first hands-on experience was reported here on the blog, live with photographs, showing the results, good and bad, of these first steps, and it was so much fun doing it, that it got me hooked !

I therefore invite you to join me in the journey of making candles for fun and, why not, maybe one day for profit ? But for now, being in the learning curve, I will concentrate on following the step-by-step guide that I just purchased, written by Dolores Attwood, and will share each of these steps here .

Along with her E-book came three bonuses:

Bonus 1 : How to make massage and soy candles

Bonus 2 : Make Money from your Hobby

Bonus 3 : List of Candle Making Supplies Manufacturers

We will go through these bonuses together as well.

In the next article, we will start by concentrating on the equipment and supplies needed for candle making.

Soy Candle Making Procedure And Materials

By: Jeffrey Fang

Soy is nothing but hydrogenated soybean oil form which candles can be made. These candles are fast becoming very popular in the household, as they are environment friendly. Though soy candles are readily available in the market, they can also be made at home by combining soy wax with various fragrances and dyes. The procedure of making soy candles is relatively very simple and involves use of material that is readily available at home.

To start with, you just require a pound of soy wax which is readily available in the market, a mason jar and an ounce of fragrance oil along with the wax dye of your favorite color. The first step to make your first soy candle is to place this wax in a container and warm it slowly, applying medium heat. When the soy wax melts completely, take out the pan from the burner. Now put in the fragrance oil and blend the contents till the fragrance is absorbed by the wax. Also add wax dye to the container and follow instructions on its label so that your candles get the desired color.

Believe it or not ! I finally came to experiment a second time around the creation of Taper candles with the recipe provided in the Complete Candlemaker Book & Kit.

The last attempt was reported here in the blog post titled :Candles Kits review : The Complete Candlemaker Book & Kit – part 4

I followed the same recipe, but this time , kept the heat of the melted wax at 170 degrees F instead of 190 degrees F. That was my initial mistake.

You may say, when viewing the photos below that they are “miniature” tapers and you are absolutely right. My dipping vat was not tall enough to allow regular size tapers. But you get the idea.

First, dip 3 to 4 second in melting vat Read the rest of this entry »
